I have extremely curly hair, at one time I went and had my hair chemically relaxed with a product that was lye free. I do not recall the name of it because I had it done at a salon. For me it lasted 1 1/2 years before the curl came back.

My hair is naturally curly/wavy. I do not know of a permant way to straighten hair, but I use relaxers (which is the opposite of a perm which makes your hair curly). You can go to a beauty salon to get a person to do it for you, if you are unfamiliar with how to do it. Or if you want to do it yourself you can go to a store and buy a relaxer kit (one with no lye and it's usually in their hair care isles) and you have to follow instructions really carefully, If you leave it in too long you're hair can break out or dry up.
